Manawatu district covers an area of 2,545.75 square kms (254,575 hectares) from Rangiwahia in the north to Himatangi Beach and Palmerston North in the south.
The western boundary is the Rangitikei River and the eastern boundary the Ruahine Ranges.
The population of the district is 28 254 (final 2006 census) and the principal urban centre is the town of Feilding (population 13 887).
