ABOUT THE DISTRICT
Our district covers 8355 square kilometres of land with 1855 kilometres of local roads. The population is about 44,500 (2006 census), 41,922 live in Gisborne city. Gisborne District Council is a unitary authority, we have the functions of both a Regional and District Council.
