Readynet

Readynet

Readynet is a is an emergency prepardness network that provides councils with a cost effective and web based tool to provide to its communities.  It provides a crucial tool in enabling councils to know their communities and be better informed to design a emergency managment programme and plan for specific needs.

Readynet was developed in Wellington to address the need for councils to engage with communities and a cost effective simple way for communities groups to communicate changes in their needs and profiles to their councils.  Several councils, , including Lower Hutt and Palmerston North were closely involved in the content development phase of the project to ensure it meet council requirements

Councils currently using Readyent include:

  • Upper Hutt City Council
  • Lower Hutt Council
  • Buller District Council
  • Porirua City Council

A case study of the implementation at Hutt City can be found here that details the thoughts and experiences of users of the system both out in the community and within emergency services.

Readynet provide an Emergency Action Guide for each site available in hard copy and on-line formats

  1. An audit system for Emergency Preparedness at sites
  2. An emergency warning system to deliver warnings to users by text and / or email.
  3. On-line access to the information by Police and Fire 111 Emergency Call Centres for individual site emergencies
  4. On-line access by TLAs when a statutory State of Emergency is declared.

In September 2007 the Readynet system was awared the inagural Microsoft Citizenship Award for "the solution that adds the most value to the community".  Readynet has also recently been involved in a Microsoft Innovation project with the NZ Police.  For more information about this project and other updates click here to download a copy of the latest Readynet News.
