Discussions & Mailing Lists

Under this brand LGOL offers a number of utilities to facilitate online discussions, both within the local government sector and with publics and communities. We continue to update our range of services in this area, particularly having regard to the importance the Local Government Act 2002 places on consultation.

The principal of these services is our Mailing List facility. Subscribe to a Mailing List of interest and you will be emailed whenever someone posts a message to the List. This will help you keep up-to-date with current issues and provides the ability to discuss those online with colleagues in other councils.

We have over 10,000 subscriptions. The Lists generate in excess of 200,000 emails each month.

The general rule is that these Mailing Lists are open to New Zealand local government employees, members and the personnel of the shareholding organisations. We do however allow exceptions where discussions would be enhanced with membership of people in related sectors. Where resources are outsourced is another exception - animal control for example.

LGOL is very keen to extend the availability of the facility to elected members and other government agencies with a need to communicate regularly with interest groups. Email LGOL's Technical Director, Bob Vine, at techdirector@localgovt.co.nz to discuss the creation of a List to meet your needs.

Associated with these Mailing Lists LGOL, Mondays and Thursdays, circulates a What's New Ezine. This publication is posted by way of a "Super List" which comprises all 4,500 List subscribers (the decision makers in New Zealand local government) plus individuals from across all sectors who have subscribed for the Ezine only. LGOL accepts suitable advertising for this medium.

In a further move to enhance networking within the sector, LGOL has in association with OnlineGroups.Net http://groups.localgovt.co.nz/ replaced the Web and Communications Managers Listserv Mailing Lists with online groups which combine the best features of a List Server with web forums and shared work spaces. It is proposed to progressively make this system available to other of our discussion groups on request. Please do not hesitate to contact Bob Vine at techdirector@localgovt.co.nz to further discuss.

In subscribing to a List it is to be understood that the subscriber acknowledges that the LGOL Mailing Lists and "What's New" Ezine may include advertisements that are relevant to the local government sector. All advertising carries the brand LGOL Advertising Advertising. Please click on the logo for more information on the Advertising Service.
